Breathing for Weight Loss
Do not underestimate the extreme power of fresh air and proper, deep breathing.
Did you know that most of your body’s toxins are expelled through your lungs, through breathing? About 70% of the toxins in the body are removed through the lungs during exhalation—just 30% are excreted in urine, feces, and skin!
Science even shows that “the lungs are the primary excretory organ for weight loss.” This is because the fat on the body is made up of triglyceride molecules which consist of three atoms: carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. To burn fat off the body, the triglycerides need to be broken up into these building blocks, a process that’s called oxidation. During oxidation oxygen is consumed while carbon dioxide and water are produced as waste. 84% of the waste is carbon dioxide and it leaves the body through the lungs! This clearly represents how important breathing and exercise are for weight loss! You need more oxygen in the body and more breathing to be able to expel more carbon dioxide! You literally breathe out fat!
This is why any activity that gets your heart rate up even a little and your breathing increased burns more calories and fat. Incorporate more movement into your daily life to get yourself breathing more! Things like cleaning the house, light working in the garden, and walking to the store instead of driving are the type of daily activities that should be included in our lives!
