How to Poop Better

How to Poop Better

Pooping is very important for health and well-being!

It’s actually really critical for weight loss too, which a lot of people don’t know. Part of why is because proper and thorough elimination helps your body become aligned and healthy. Just as what you eat is important for weight control, so is what you eliminate from your body. Not eliminating properly contributes to a “clogging” of your system and things can’t function properly. Learn how to poop properly and well, you’ll be happy you did!

Squat!

Squatting while pooping puts your bowels and muscles in a different position than when you sit in a regular chair/toilet position. In fact in parts of the world, it is normal to squat rather than sit to go to the bathroom. Squatting allows the bowel to open up more, which creates better elimination (so important!). You want complete elimination.

If you’re agile and you have a regular toilet, you can step up onto the toilet seat to squat. Or, get a Squatty Potty! This is a great toilet accessory that aligns your body into the squatting position.

Eat a good amount of fruit

I believe the most cleansing food for the body is fruit. Fruit is incredibly beneficial for the body in so many ways and its cleansing ability is one of those ways. Fruit gets the bowels moving—it’s full of live, raw enzymes and bulky fiber so it breaks things down and pushes things out. In my opinion it is like fruit literally scrubs your intestines, cleaning them out. When you eat a lot of fruit regularly you will find your stomach feeling and looking slim and feeling light—the opposite of a constipated feeling. Fruit is your friend!

Eat fibrous foods

Foods rich in fiber in general—such as veggies, fruits, and beans—will help form full, healthy bowel movements. Fiber is bulk that helps carry out waste and toxins that you don’t want sitting in there. A lot of fiber in your diet is a good thing! It really helps move things out.

In a pinch, have some caffeine

If you’re feeling a bit backed up or just wanting to encourage a bowel movement to happen, have some caffeine! Coffee, tea or chocolate will do the trick. Caffeine stimulates the bowels. I often have some organic dark chocolate each day. I’m kinda known for my love of chocolate! Raw is especially amazing! Try a superfood cacao mix like this:

Think about doing it

People who run around busy all the time often don’t realize that sometimes constipation problems just have to do with the mind being distracted. You and your mind being so preoccupied means other bodily functions get set aside. A little-known trick is simply to slow down for a minute and put your thought/consciousness on having a bowel movement. Think about pooping for a second. The mere act of your mind going to this will allow your body to know it is okay to do that soon. Almost always you will find shortly thereafter you are going to the bathroom!

Take probiotics

Did you know that our poop is mostly bacteria!!! We have so much bacteria in our bodies, including in our digestive tract. It is a mixture of beneficial bacteria and less-beneficial bacteria. Our lives depend on these bacteria (and they depend on us). It is a symbiotic relationship. Your bacteria assist in the functioning of your body and you couldn’t be a healthy person without them! So learn to love them. Cultivate them through eating probiotic-rich foods such as kimchi, sauerkraut, kombucha, pickles, and yogurt, and take high-quality probiotics in supplement form. I’ve taken probiotic supplements almost daily for about 10 years and swear by them! They help digestive issues, and I believe they contribute to maintaining a lower body weight as well!
