How to Get a Tan the Safe Way
If you want to get a tan, do it the safe, sensible way!
Don’t overdo it on the first day. Choose your time in the sun with care: either early morning or late afternoon and stay out for only about 15 minutes. Gradually build up your exposure after that. The rest of the time, find some shade and stay there!
Anytime you’re not wearing sunscreen, take great care with yourself in the sun and limit the length of time you’re exposed!
Sun in moderation
When the sun’s ultraviolet rays come into contact with your skin, not only will it start causing tanning through melanin production, or start causing burning. Another of the body’s defenses is for the epidermis to thicken! If this happens frequently your skin can lose some of its elasticity and show early signs of aging such as forming wrinkles or becoming very dry. The sun is probably responsible for about 90 percent of the aging effects suffered by your skin.
Most of the time when you’re in the sun, protect yourself by wearing sunscreen, sunglasses and, if necessary, a wide-brimmed hat that will protect the face, hair, and the back of the neck!
